Finance Business Analyst

Location: Amsterdam Zuidoost

Position

Reports to: Finance Business Partner

Core Deliverables

The Finance Business Analyst (referred to as the FBA) will report directly to the Finance Business Partner (referred to as the FBP) and will work together with the FBP to drive the financial performance of the Pharma Ingredients business (from now on referred to as Pharma). The FBA will support the FBP and the commercial team (Group Brand Director of Pharma and his team) and be responsible for the following activities:


Budget and QF process 

 Proactively analyse P&L variances and present results concisely to FBP and commercial team
 Provide regular and timely cost analysis to FBP and commercial team of the committed spend which comprises direct costs hitting the General ledger and open purchase orders (Pos)
 Create and agree timetable for preparation of budget/QF packs with commercial team and FBP. Work closely with the commercial team to ensure deadlines are met
 Responsible for the integrity of chart of accounts/profit centre (CoA/PFC) structures
 Enter data into Hyperion accurately
 Liaise with Central finance team to determine recharges
 Ensure reporting packs include relevant and accurate supporting analysis

Cost and investment appraisal

 Demonstrate a deep, fundamental understanding of all costs in product and portfolio P&Ls
 Create cost budgets from a granular zero-base (i.e. building from scratch, not rolling forward prior year) 
 Understand the importance/priority of each cost line so that savings can be made to fund investment where necessary

Event planning

 Draft event plan financials, working with Business Partner and commercial team, and enter them into Hyperion
 Ensure accuracy and completeness of event plan financials
 Ensure compliance with event planning calendar

Event pricing and re-book targets

 Working with FBP and commercial team, model impact of pricing decisions and re-book targets to optimise total revenue
 Analyse trade-off between re-book (at lower rates) and post-show sales (at higher rates but also higher sales costs), and make recommendations to team 
 Analyse factors such as inflation, market growth and competitor pricing when recommending pricing decisions

M&A proposals

 Prepare valuation models using Group template, including detailed P&L projections and analysis of multiples, returns and discounted cash flow (DCF)
 Test and challenge P&L assumptions with commercial team and FBP

Event launches

 Prepare financial plan using Group template, including detailed P&L projections and DCF
 Test and challenge P&L assumptions with commercial team and FBP

Revenue accruals

 Review and approve revenue reconciliation
 Notify BSC of third party revenue accruals required
 Liaise with third party to co-ordinate manual invoices and reimbursement to the company
 Ensure cash and banking have correct codes to book
 Liaise with business service centre (BSC) to ensure VAT is correctly accounted


Cost accruals

 Review balance sheet on monthly basis
 Clear down items relating to traded shows in a timely manner
 Give FBP advance notice of significant items requiring approval
 Provides accurate and timely journals to BSC

Month end Reporting

 Enter accurate KPIs into Hyperion after checking with commercial team
 Prepare month end flash report and bridges
 Review headcount variances vs latest forecast, understanding key movements
 Prepare control certificates for submission to central team
 Review working capital balances, with key movements submitted to central team and issues raised with FBP

Sales commissions

 Calculate sales commission payments

Capital expenditure

 Process capex items working with BSC
 Ensure capex is recorded and amortised correctly

Sales reporting

 Ensure accurate weekly sales reports prepared and distributed on time

Audit and compliance

 Prepare requested audit items at half year and year end  in timely manner
 Set up ESOP [internal system] profiles within required timescales
 Perform quarterly Oracle user audit review
 Review and update monthly business org changes
 Liaise with Legal to ensure use of correct sales contracts
 Inform central team of any new JV agreements


Profile

Individual Qualities

 Accounting studies, business economics a must (professional accounting qualifications - e.g. RA, CIMA, ACA, CA etc not necessary)
 At least 4 years relevant experience (to the tasks highlighted above)

Technical system skills

 Experience with Oracle EBS and Oracle Planning, Oracle Planning modules, Smartview advantageous
 Intermediate excel user
